What's New on Philosophy Online

Poll: Suggestions for the Fourth Book (the REAL vote that counts...) - As you may or may not know, I am in the midst of writing a series of philosophy books for Blackwell. My guide to Descartes's Meditations has been out since November 2007, and December 2008 will see the publication of my guide to Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil (see here). I am also currently working on a beginner's guide to theory of knowledge/epistemology, which hopefully will be out around August 2009.

As regards the fourth book, it was going to be a guide to Sartre's Existentialism and Humanism. However, as you also may or may not know, the A-level Philosophy syllabus has now changed and Sartre has been removed from the set text list. So, since A-level students are one target audience for the books, it would make sense to choose a different topic.

Therefore, I have listed some of the main contenders. The book will be aimed at students and general readers worldwide, so don't feel that you can only vote if you are an A-level student in the UK. Also, if there is topic that you think should be there and is not, then please check the "Other" box and add a comment below.

About Philosophy Online

PhilosophyOnline began in about 1999 as my own private project. As an A level philosophy teacher, I initially intended it simply to support my own philosophy students in their studies. So, by allowing them to download notes for lessons they had missed, read online texts, and access links to useful websites, I hoped to generally support and encourage them in developing their independent study of philosophy.

From this humble beginning, the site has continued to grow and improve, and its purpose is now much expanded, intending to act as an accessible introduction for anyone looking for a no-nonsense guide to the subject. Accordingly, you will find here material related to some central philosophical themes (the theory of knowledge, the philosophy of religion, and the philosophy of mind), a few of its key texts (Descartes's Meditations and Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil), a discussion forum, relevant links, book reviews, and various other bits of useful information. I am hoping to be able to add to these sections in the near future, and - inline with the redesign and the ongoing publication of my books - to develop the site in new directions. In view of this, whilst I am restructuring and writing new material, the old material will still be available. However, when using or citing the old material, please bear in mind that it will soon be removed.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the site over the years, and especially to those who have taken time to pass on their comments, suggestions, and general appreciation. Such messages are always welcome, and you can reach me via the contact form on the website. However, if you have a question, please check out the FAQs section before contacting me.
