  Simplifying the picture
  Identity theory attempts to simplify this picture by doing away with the individual self as the subject of experience and the idea or mental picture as a separate mental entity. As such, we are left with 3 components:

1. The object (the car)
2. The input through the senses (the perception of the car)
3. Neural activity in the brain

From this point of view, neural activity in the brain is the same as mental activity.
