By joining the PhilosophyOnline forum, you agree that you will not post anything which is offensive, obscene, threatening, abusive, or otherwise against good taste and general being-nice-ness. This board may be visited by anyone of any age and background, so please, keep it clean and respectful, and relevant to philosophy. Also, please do not post copyrighted or otherwise illegal material.

If you do step over this line, you may be banned, and – in extreme cases – any identifying information may be revealed to the relevant authorities (so don’t say you haven’t been warned!).

PhilosophyOnline does try to keep an eye on everything that’s posted, but things do sometimes slip through - for which, however, we are not responsible. So bear in mind that the posted material does not necessarily express the views of the website owner, and that you are responsible for all your posts. However, if you do find anything that you think inappropriate, please report it, and – if we agree – suitable action will be taken as soon as possible.

You can choose your own (appropriate!) user name (inappropriate ones will be deleted), and – we advise – a strong password (a mixture of numbers, upper and lower case letters, etc.), and please don’t share these with anyone else. Similarly, for your profile, keep it clean – inappropriate material will be deleted and you may get a slap on the wrist. However, we reserve IP banning for fairly serious offences (such as making fun of Nietzsche's moustache).

Also note that the software that runs this forum places a cookie, a text file containing bits of information (such as your username and password), in your browser's cache. This is ONLY used to keep you logged in/out. The software does not collect or send any other form of information to your computer, and you will not be flooded with Ukrainian spam (probably…). However, if we are hacked – which we hope is unlikely, but you can never rule it out – then we are not responsible for the exploitation of any material you place in your profile. We do our best to keep things secure with the latest security patches, etc., but it is best not to put any sensitive information there.

If you have any questions regarding the website or this forum, please firstly check the FAQs section, and then – if your answer is not covered there – use the contact form.

One final thing: once you become a member you will need to briefly say “Hi!” – or more if you want – in the “New Members” section. Once you have done this, the rest of the forum will become visible to you.

We hope you enjoy your time here.
